The History Department of V.N. (Autonomous) College was opened in 1966 with History as Pass subject and in 1977 History honours was opened under the Utkal University vide Letter No.4071 dtd.10.03.1977. The former Director of Higher Education Dr. Gorachand Pattnaik and Asst. Director Dr. Amiya Mohanty were the faculty members of the History Department of V.N. (Autonomous) College. Apart from this, the History department also produced many principals. This department has organized Odisha History Congress in 1993 and 2009. The 2009 session of the History Congress was presided by Retd. Prof. A.N. Parida of Dept. A.I.H.C & A of Utkal University.
